Yara N-Barometer
The Yara N-Barometer provides an overview of how much of the applied nitrogen is absorbed by winter wheat, when it is taken up, and how much is supplied by the soil through mineralization during the growing season. The Yara N-Barometer consists of measurements of nitrogen uptake in a series of trials with increasing nitrogen applications in winter wheat, including treatments with no nitrogen applied and treatments receiving up to 300 kg N/ha. Nitrogen uptake is determined using measurements from a handheld Yara N-Sensor, which operates on the same principle as the tractor-mounted N-Sensor. Measurements are taken from the first nitrogen application until the end of May. The trials are geographically distributed across Denmark. The results can be followed thoughout the growing season and give insight into the nitrogen use efficiency and how much N has been taken up by the crop at different stages.
